Corporate Interior Design India: Bank of Maharashtra Office Redesign Blending Brand Identity With Modern Functionality
Introduction to Corporate Interior Design India
Redesigning an office for a public sector bank presents a unique set of challenges. The design must balance institutional gravitas with modern functionality, reflect a trusted national brand while meeting contemporary workplace expectations, and serve a diverse user group that includes customers, staff, and senior leadership. When Bank of Maharashtra engaged Innovative Interiors Global for a flagship branch and regional office redesign, we approached it as a project that required as much strategic thinking as it did design expertise.
Understanding the Brief
Bank of Maharashtra's requirements were multifaceted. The customer-facing areas needed to reflect the bank's heritage — stability, trustworthiness, and national pride — while feeling modern and accessible. The back-office and staff areas needed to support efficient operations for a large team, with adequate workstation density, meeting rooms, and management cabins. The branch also required seamless integration of security systems, CCTV, and access control within the interior design. And throughout, the bank's brand palette — blue and white — needed to be expressed with sophistication rather than rigidity.

Design Approach
Our design team proposed a 'contemporary heritage' approach. The customer banking hall featured a warm material palette — natural stone flooring, wood-panelled service counters, and soft lighting — that communicated warmth and security without feeling corporate or cold. Brand elements were integrated through custom graphics, feature walls in the brand blue, and frosted glass partitions with the bank's emblem. The staff work areas were designed for efficiency — open workstations with ergonomic seating, well-positioned meeting rooms, and ample natural light.
Technical Execution
The project required careful coordination with the bank's IT and security teams to ensure that the interior design accommodated all technical requirements. CCTV positioning was designed into the ceiling plan from the start, avoiding the retrofitted, ad-hoc installations that mar many bank interiors. ATM lobby design incorporated appropriate lighting levels, access control provisions, and surface durability requirements. All materials specified for customer-facing areas were selected for their durability under high-footfall conditions.
The Outcome
The completed redesign was inaugurated by the bank's senior management and received positive coverage in regional business media. Customer footfall increased measurably in the weeks following the relaunch, partly driven by the refreshed brand presence. Staff feedback highlighted improved comfort in the back-office areas and pride in working in a modernised environment. The project also served as a template for the bank's planned redesign program across additional branches.
